not sure of the details of this project, just saw it on the greenhills skatepark facebook page and thought i'd post the pics here.

Probably would have been safer to incorporate an Archery range into the skatepark instead of a basketball court....

who the fuck designs these mixed use spaces? it's like putting a fucking hockey field on the green of a gold course!

DeathMoth is on the money. What kind of wiener thinks this will work? Do skateboards actually design skateparks? I don't get it..

Nieve 17:39 09/Oct/13

There was actually a dad playing hockey with his kid on the already packed skatepark at my local recently. People are fucking stupid.

The redfern basketball setup works because there's no intersecting lines, but I don't think they can really create anything similar using this space.

There's gotta be a way to design both elements...?

Basketballs, remote control cars, frisbees, slinkys, smashing bottles, fire, syringes, chainsaws, my dick... All very fun things for kids to play with, but there's a time and a place for everything, and it's not at a skatepark

Skaters generally don't sue, or are not letigious as a group. By increasing the likelyhood of non skaters getting injured by skaters because they are playing basketball on a "skate space" is a highly propable situation.

Can we get back to skateparks being just that, and proper ones not uninspired and ill concieved 4ft yawnfests?

Fuck Australia is getting left behind. It is an easy sell for the designers because councils love that kind of stuff.

If the basketball court was there first, and putting obstacles around the outside is a cost effective way to get something for a small budget then fair enough, I get it. This could be the case I don't know.

After reading the little description on that council release, it seams that the court was there first and this development is only on one half of it

What's the other half? A tennis court/bowl?

Must just be a half court originally?

Either way who wants to become part of the Australia Baskateball team?

If the basketball court was already there and they are putting skate stuff around the outside, fair enough. I don't know why you would put the flow with everything heading straight towards the key and hoop. Ledges around the outside where flow goes around the outskirts of the court where people can play and skate at the same time perhaps?

Skatepark design facepalm yet again. Australia is so getting left behind
